Early Voting
What is early voting?
Early voting, also known as one-stop absentee voting, allows any registered voters to cast their ballots in person prior to the election day. Because you have more freedom in choosing when you will vote and because polling places are often less crowded during the early voting period, this can be a convenient way to do your civic duty.
When and where can I vote early?
In general, early voting will be available from Thursday October 16 to Saturday November 4th. Times and locations vary by county. The North Carolina Board of Elections periodically updates it's listing of sites for one-stop early voting for North Carolina Counties. Also in table downloadable format at the NC BOE site.
How can I find more information about voting early?
Ask your county's Board of Elections [table at the NC BOE site]. Note that in the table, the county names are links to county websites.
Can I register and vote the same day?
North Carolina Voting System allows same-day registration during early voting [NC BOE} period only; it is not allowed on Primary day or on Election day. Through November 1, you can register and vote by going to a one-stop voting site in your county of residence with the proper identification to take advantage of same-day registration.Do I need to bring identification to vote?
Yes, if you are a newly registered voter. No, if you've registered and voted at your current address previously. Bring a drivers license, other government issued ID, social security card, or utility bill for identification purposes if necessary. It's always a good idea to bring proof of residency, just in case.
